WHAT IS A DREAM PILLOW?
A Dream Pillow is a small pillow filled with relaxing herbs, like catnip, lavender and mugwort. The practice of placing herbs under or near one’s pillow dates back centuries. They were once called ‘comfort pillows’ and used in sickrooms to ease nightmares that may come with medicines and smells of illness. Whether this practice was to calm and soothe nightmares in sickrooms, aid in restful sleep or the remembering of one’s dreams; herb filled dream pillows are beneficial for adults, children, and even pets.
HOW TO MAKE A DREAM PILLOW
Select a piece of cotton or natural fiber fabric (this can be the perfect time to use up leftover fabric pieces, bandannas, scarves, etc). Cut it into whatever shape you wish; although squares and rectangles are likely the simplest. Place the right sides of the fabric together and stitch along 3 of the edges (leaving one edge unsewn). Pull the fabric out through the unsewn edge exposing the right sides of the fabric with 3 edges neatly sewn. Create a herbal blend and fill your pillow. Complete your pillow by sewing up the open edge.
You may choose to decorate it with ribbon or beads and buttons. Use your imagination and allow your creativity to express itself!
For a sewing-free option, cut your fabric into its desired shape and place a tablespoon or more of herbs into the middle of it. Gather up the surrounding edges like a satchel and cinch with twine, yarn or ribbon.
HOW TO USE A DREAM PILLOW
Dream Pillows can be tucked inside, under, or next to pillows where their emitted fragrance can be enjoyed throughout the night. Dream Pillows are great for all ages and can be particularly useful for those who have a difficult time falling asleep. Dream Pillows can also be used to enhance dreaming and/or remembering dreams.
